When is the right time?
When is the perfect time for family photos? When we have the money, when we lose some weight, when we get our hair done, the kids bracers, new clothes, when the weather is warmer or just soon.
I recently read a blog post by a photographer in the States, it was so sad and so true and it really rang a bell for me. You can read it for yourself here: The Article
Even though I am a photographer, I am exactly like you. I seem to find reasons for not having photos taken, my main reason is that I just don't want to, I have an easy out by always being on the other side of the camera. I have weight to lose, my hair needs doing, I need botox! lol.. it goes on and on but when I read this story I realised that the most important thing I do need is family photos.
Now, anyone with boys and or a husband will know that spending a day taking photos of yourselves isn't exactly their cup of tea. In fact I could have sworn I suggested hanging out playing bridge if you saw the debacle just the idea caused, but I managed to drag them all out and in the end we had a fun day, just as we are right now.
Its a silly concept to wait until...wait until what? Until we really don't look like ourselves? We all change so much throughout our lives, we get older, children grow, their faces change, our faces change, hair colours change, weight changes but for a even a few moments at some stage we looked as we do right now.
I learned a lot from today;
1. We are as we are now, its important to capture ourselves as we are throughout our lives even if we don't look how we wish we did!
2. How wonderful the feeling is to have photos of your family. Happy. Healthy and together.
And 3....that the older I get the more and more I look like my mum!
So, the results from our effort, as we are in our lives. Now.

Oh P.S In case you are wondering how we managed this. We used a tripod and a remote to trigger the shutter. I composed the shots, then jumped into my place and someone would press the remote button and hide it, drop it, put it in their pocket.. and snap!
