Gala Nights in Black and White!

Well it was certainly bucketing down on Saturday night but that didn't stop 50 odd Canberrans coming out, dressed in the theme of black and white to attend the Pixles Canberra Photographers Gala Dinner.

Its an annual gala and awards night where entrants can nominate their own image or someone elses for awards in various categories.
As well as the awards there is wine, chatter and great food. Tim Johnson twittered away the night while we all enjoyed good company, talked Photography and cameras and met people we have known for a long time but sometimes never met.

The entries this year were amazing, and each category had a huge variety of images and concepts.
The one category with a difference is Photo of the Year. For this category there is a competition each month throughout the year. Photos are entered for the month, one image becomes the winner for that month and then goes in the running for Photo of they year. Winners of another competition are also automatically entered in the running. I hadn't had much time to enter shots through out the year but did throw one in for the last month, August..and it won for the month. I was so excited that alone would keep me on a high!
As the awards came to an end on Saturday night, the final award was that of Photo Of the Year, the entrants were shown and then a pause to build to the announcement of the winner, I took a sip of my wine and sat back ready to cheer on the winner...but..... then they called "Bianca Dopson" .... WHAT? Me? Woohooo... I NEVER expected it, in fact was 100% sure that I didn't have a chance, what an amazing surprise! I will hang the print on my wall with pride! Thank you to everyone who voted for my image, its so very special and means so much!
